My name is Alana James and I am all alone. At least, I think I am. No one came when I called for help after I woke up cold and wet in the complete darkness of night. I don’t know why I’m here… I don’t even know where here is. I recognize nothing. I don’t remember the last thing I remember. I feel as though I’m in a haze, so I write this in the the notebook I found in the morning light. There was wreckage everywhere, but I looked everywhere and I can’t find sign of life. I don’t know what is happening. Why am I here? Where is here? And what in the hell happened to everyone else?
She closed the journal, peaking out from under the shelter she’d found in a piece of the wreckage. She thought perhaps it was an airplane but she couldn’t find anything identifiable. What had happened to her, she wondered, as she shifted through the bag of supplies she’d managed to salvage in the breaks of the torrential rainstorm that seemed hellbent on giving her hypothermia.

Alana took a steadying breath, rubbing her arms for warmth. The last thing she remembered was taking a test for an advanced space program, but somehow she knew that had been quite some time ago. At twenty-two years old, Alana graduated from MIT with a dual masters in quantum physics and a masters in biochemical organics. The very next day she had her interview with a group of elite billionaires who were bankrolling a secret project with massive implications. A week later, she’d taken the test. How long ago was that, she wondered.

Regardless, her current situation was as follows: She was wounded. Her left knee was badly bruised and her right arm was probably broken. She had three bottles of water, two packs of water purifying tablets, a three day supply of oatmeal, one MRE and some candy still in the bag from the store. She ripped it open and popped one in her mouth. She savored the flavor, closing her eyes.

“Grape,” she said to herself, almost scaring herself with her voice. “Woah.”
Her throat hurt when she spoke. She sighed, opening one of the water bottles. She took a sip and closed it. She had to ration it. Who knew how long it would be until she found a drinkable supply, she reasoned longing for another bit of the refreshing liquid. Grunting in pain, Alana stood up. She was filthy, she knew. Her hands were covered in a thick layer of blood and dirt mixed together. She shuddered wondering where the blood was from. As far as she could tell, she was unharmed. Her hair was matted and dreading though, so maybe she had a head wound she couldn’t feel.
“It would explain why I can’t remember,” she muttered. She picked up the bag, throwing it over her shoulder. She agonized with each stop as she climbed the crater where the crash site was. After what felt like ages, she managed to make it to the ridge line. She swallowed as she looked around.

Though there were mountains, they were too enormous to be anything on earth. The rivers and lakes she saw were filled with clear water, so clear she could see the rocks at the bottom. Nowhere she looked was familiar. A painful lump formed in her throat and tears welled in her eyes.

For a flickering second she thought she might be in Montana, but then she saw a creature with six legs and purple fur walk near one of the riverbanks and in that moment, Alana James knew she was no longer on earth, and as far as she could tell, she was completely alone.

I don’t know why Im writing this down. I’m not on earth and I doubt anyone will ever find this, but I have to… get this out or I’ll lose my mind. I have so many questions… but… I have some answers too. I managed to find shelter. It’s a cave. I have two bottles of water left, but good news, I did find a water source and I think it’s clean. I tried a sip and I haven’t gotten sick. I’ll drink another sip tomorrow. Before I left the crash, I found a small cooking set, a blanket, a knife, a cutting laser, three lighters, and three pairs of socks. Everything else was wet or burned before I woke up. I think. I am trying to be rational. I am trying… I am so afraid. I don’t want to die here.
